The Sydney Sixers won the inaugural edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) in 2011/12.
The Big Bash League (BBL) is one of the most popular T20 cricket leagues in the world and is played once every year in Australia. It’s first edition took place back in 2011/12 with a total of 8 teams. Every year, eight teams compete for the championship.
The Sydney Sixers were the first team to win the championship in the inaugural season, beating the Perth Scorchers in the final. Since then, six teams have won the title. Only the Hobart Hurricanes and the Melbourne Stars are the two sides that have not won the title yet. Here we will talk about the most successful BBL teams or the team with the most BBL titles.
Here are the teams with most Big Bash League (BBL) titles:
6. Sydney Thunder (1):
The Sydney Thunder became only the fourth BBL team to win the championship when they won the fifth edition in 2015-16. They beat the Melbourne Stars in the final at the MCG. That win came under the leadership of Mike Hussey, and interestingly, his brother David Hussey was leading the Stars in the final. That was the only final they have played in the BBL so far.

4. Adelaide Strikers (1):
The record for the highest innings total in a BBL final is registered by the Adelaide Strikers, and it came in 2017/18 against the Hobart Hurricanes. That was the time when they also won their maiden BBL title. The Strikers made 202/2 in the final and won by 25 runs under the leadership of Travis Head. They have not played any BBL finals apart from that.

3. Melbourne Renegades (1):
The Melbourne Renegades have been one of the under-performing teams in BBL history. They played only one BBL final in 2018–19 and won it. Their maiden title win came after defeating Melbourne Stars in the final of 2018-19 season under the leadership of Aaron Finch. But apart from that, the Renegades have nothing much to celebrate in the BBL history.

3. Brisbane Heat (2):
The Brisbane Heat were only the second team to lift the title in the tournament. They beat the Perth Scorchers in the final of the 2012–13 season by 34 runs to win the championship. It was Chris Hartley who led the Heat to their maiden BBL title.
Brisbane Heat won their second BBL title in the 2023-24 season. They defeated Sydney Sixers by 54 runs in an one-sided affair in the final played at the SCG on 24th January, 2024.
BBL title won in: 2012–13, 2023-24.
2. Sydney Sixers (3):
The Sydney Sixers are the second-most successful team in Big Bash League history. They won the inaugural season, beating the Perth Scorchers in the final under Steve Smith’s leadership. Then, Moises Henriques led the Sixers to consecutive BBL titles in 2019–20 and 2020–21; they beat the Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers, respectively. Apart from three title wins, they have also ended as runners-up in three seasons as well.
BBL titles won in: 2011–12, 2019–20 and 2020–21.
1. Perth Scorchers (5):
The Perth Scorchers are the most successful BBL team overall. After losing the finals of the first two BBL editions, the Scorchers won their maiden title under Simon Katich in their third attempt. It was followed by another win in the very next season under Adam Voges. The Scorchers won their third title under Voges again in 2016–17. Then, Ashton Turner led them to two consecutive titles in 2021–22 and 2022–23.
BBL titles won in: 2013–14, 2014–15, 2016–17, 2021–22 and 2022–23.
