IPL 2025 is scheduled to kick off on March 14.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction concluded on Monday, November 25, in Jeddah. The historic mega event saw teams splurging money to build formidable squads for next season.

This year’s auction was historic in many ways. While Rishabh Pant (INR 27 crores) and Shreyas Iyer (INR 26.75 crores) both broke Mitchell Starc’s record to become the two most expensive players in the IPL history, Bihar’s 13-year-old talent Vaibhav Raghuvanshi became the youngest player to get sold at the IPL auction.

While all 10 franchises have now finalised their squads, there are a few teams who are yet to officially name their captains for next season.

On that note, let’s look at the list of teams who are yet to officially confirm their captains for IPL 2025.

Teams who are yet to officially name their captains for IPL 2025:

1. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

The IPL 2024 winners KKR are yet to announce their captain for next season. Having released Shreyas Iyer before the IPL 2025 mega auction, the franchise has roped in a few experienced names. Venkatesh Iyer, who as key cog in their title-winning side, was bought back for INR 23.75 crores.

Venkatesh has emerged as a strong favourite to lead the team next season. Speaking to broadcasters after the auction, Iyer said that he would be ready for the role if given.

2. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

Despite the rumours of Virat Kohli returning as the captain of the RCB, the franchise is yet to confirm their leader for next season. The 2016 IPL finalists have strengthened their bowling attack with the addition of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood.

Kohli and Bhuvneshwar are the two front-runners to lead the franchise next year. Kohli’s return as a captain will add excitement for next season. Phil Salt, who has led England recently in T20Is, is another candidate in RCB’s squad to lead them.

3. Delhi Capitals (DC)

Having retained four players before the mega event, DC came to the IPL 2025 mega auction to rebuild their squad for next season. One of DC’s most prominent buys was KL Rahul, who will join the franchise at a salary of INR 14 crores after parting ways with LSG.

Rahul’s prior experience captaincy experience at LSG and PBKS makes him a most likely option to captain Delhi next season.

Axar Patel has been DC’s vice-captain and could be in line for a promotion in the leadership role.

4. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

LSG signed Rishabh Pant for a record-breaking fee of INR 27 crores. After their underwhelming campaign last year under KL Rahul, LSG let go of their skipper and the Sanjiv Goenka-owned franchise came to the IPL 2025 mega auction looking for a new leader.

They secured Pant for a hefty sum and he is one of the candidates to lead the side. The other favourite to lead the side is Nicholas Pooran, who was retained by the franchise as first pick at INR 21 crores and was promoted as vice-captain of the team last season.

5. Punjab Kings (PBKS)

Having retained only two players before the mega auction, Punjab Kings were the most active franchise at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

PBKS broke the bank to acquire Shreyas Iyer for a whopping INR 26.75 crores on the first day of the event. PBKS’s big move on Iyer is a clear indication of their interest in his leadership abilities. However, they’re yet to announce their captain officially.
