Karun Nair is the second Indian batter after Virender Sehwag to smash a triple century in test cricket.
Indian cricketer Karun Nair has expressed his thoughts regarding a comeback in test cricket. Nair expressed that he still dreams of getting back into the Indian cricket team test squad.
The 32-year-old Nair made his test debut against England in November 2016. In just his third innings in test cricket, Nair smashed a triple-hundred and became the second Indian batter after Virender Sehwag to register a tes triple-century.
The right-handed batter remained unbeaten on 303 runs, with 32 boundaries and four maximums. Nair’s innings helped India reach a massive 759-7 in their first innings. His knock helped the hosts win the Chennai test by an innings and 75 runs against England.
After his triple ton, many believed that Nair had cemented his place in the test side. But failures in his next four innings saw him getting dropped from the side. Nair played his last test match against Australia in March 2017.
Finding a way back to play Test cricket: Karun Nair
Recently, Nair expressed hopes of making his comeback to the Indian cricket team. The 32-year-old added that he wakes up each morning with only one dream.
“I feel like I’m batting as well as I’ve ever done. I am in a good head space, I know where my game is. I am just making sure if I get opportunities, wherever it may be, the focus is on making the most of those chances so that I can climb up the stairs again. It’s still exciting to wake up each morning and dream of finding a way back to play Test cricket. That keeps me going. I would love to win trophies; we missed out in the Ranji last year. I will try to correct it this year,” Nair told ESPNcricinfo.
Karun Nair shifted to Vidarbha after being on the bench of the Karnataka team for a year. In the 2023/24 season, he scored 690 runs and helped Vidarbha reach the Ranji Trophy final.
Reflecting on his comeback Nair said “If you told me at the start of last season that I would score these many runs, I would have taken that. I had been at home for a year, staved off opportunities, and when nothing worked out, I asked myself what I could do. So when I got the chance, it felt good to be able to contribute again. The tough years have helped me push myself that much more. For me, the most important game is the one I am playing now. Be it a league game or a domestic game, I have learnt not to look far ahead.”
