India have won three test series against England in England.
The Indian Cricket Team toured England for the first time in 1932 for a one-off test match at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. Since then, the two heavyweights have played 139 test matches against each other. Out of these, India claimed victories in 36 games, whereas England have registered wins in 53 encounters. 50 tests between both sides ended in a draw.
India have a poor record while facing England in England in the longest format of the game. Out of 70 games in England, India have won only 10 matches while the hosts clinched 38 victories. 22 encounters ended in a draw.
India have toured England for 19 test series so far. The swinging and seam-friendly pitch conditions in England have always posed a huge challenge to India. England have been too powerful against at home, capturing victories in 15 test series out of 19.

1. India’s tour of England 1971: 1-0
The Indian Cricket Team won their first away test series against England in 1971 under the captaincy of Ajit Wadekar. The visitors claimed a 1-0 victory in the three-match series to script history on England soil. The first two games at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London and Old Trafford in Manchester ended in a draw.
However, India bagged a victory in the third test at The Oval. England, led by Ray Illingworth, piled up a gigantic 355/10 in the first innings and later bowled out India for 284. However, India bounced back in the second innings with a brilliant bowling effort to bundle out England for just 101. Later, they chased down the 173-run target with four wickets in hand to win the match and seal the series 1-0.
2. India’s tour of England 1986: 2-0

In 1986, India dominated England in a three-match series and registered a 2-0 victory. Led by Kapil Dev, the visitors won the first test at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London by five wickets and the second test at Headingley in Leeds by a huge margin of 279 runs. The third test at Edgbaston in Birmingham ended in a draw.
With two centuries and one half-century, Dilip Vengsarkar played a huge role in India’s victory during the series. With 360 runs across six innings, he finished as the top run-scorer in the series and won Player of the Series award.
3. India’s tour of England 2007: 1-0

India’s last test series victory in England came in 2007 under Rahul Dravid’s captaincy. The nail-biting series witnessed three matches. The first test ended in a draw at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, but India grabbed a pleasing victory by seven wickets in the second clash at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
England failed to make a comeback in the third test at The Oval, which also ended in a draw. The Rahul Dravid-led side clinched a 1-0 victory in the three-match series. Pacer Zaheer Khan was pick of the bowlers as he clinched 18 wickets in the series. He shared Player of the Series award along with England’s James Anderson.
