Tilak Varma top-scored for India in both the matches in the ongoing T20I series against West Indies.

Middle-order batter Tilak Varma has announced himself in the international arena with a bang. Making his international debut against West Indies in the T20I series, Tilak has done a magnificent job as a middle-order batter. India may have lost the first two T20I games closely, but Tilak came out as the only positive from both the games.

He got the opportunity after his magnificent run in the last two seasons of the Indian Premier League. Varma scored his maiden T20I half-century in his second game and smashed 51 runs in 41 balls at Providence Stadium and dedicated his maiden fifty-plus score and celebration to Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s daughter.

Tilak reveals the reason behind his celebration

Dedicating his celebration and maiden fifty to Rohit’s daughter, Tilak in a video released by BCCI.tv said, “It was towards Sammy (Samaira), Rohit bhai’s daughter. I am very close to Sammy. I had promised her that whenever I will score a century or a fifty, I will do celebration for her. We both play each other like that so I did my celebration for Sammy”.

Tilak Varma plays for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Tilak smashed 5 fours and a six in his innings against West Indies in the 2nd T20I. His innings was crucial after India lost a few early wickets against the West Indies pace attack and Akeal Hosein.

Tilak Varma credits his ‘support system’ for success

Tilak Varma also credited his ‘support system’ Rohit Sharma for his success and said, “I will be talking to him (Rohit Sharma) because he has been a support system for me always. He said to me enjoys the game and always talks with me about the game, how to play international cricket. It has helped me.”

Tilak has been a huge admirer of Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma and always credited him for his success. Rohit also showed a lot of faith in Tilak as a player in the Indian Premier League. Tilak has also performed exceptionally well to not disappoint his captain.

Tilak Varma made his debut against West Indies in the first T20I at Brian Lara Cricket Academy and smashed 39 runs in 22 balls in a 150 chase. India failed to chase down the total but Tilak showed a huge promise for the future of the Indian T20I team. Once again, in the second game, He showcased his batting talent as his maiden fifty came under huge pressure.

Tilak arrived in powerplay when India lost two early wickets inside 4 overs. His innings provided a chance for Team India to go on and score a decent total. Nicolas Pooran with his 67 runs knock helped West Indies win the game and take a 2-0 lead in the series.
