Mitchell Marsh and Tim David were the stars with the bat in first T20I vs SA on Wednesday.

Australia are on tour to South Africa, where they will play three T20Is and five ODIs. With two strong teams playing, it is expected to be an exciting series. It started with the first T20I game on Wednesday at Kingsmead, Durban, where the visitors registered a one-sided win over the hosts and thrashed them by 111 runs.

It saw an all-round performance from Australia with both bat and ball. Captain Mitchell Marsh and all-rounder Tim David played two incredible knocks, and then debutant Tanveer Sangha recorded the best bowling figure by an Australian on debut. This win has given the host a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Meanwhile, Australian team management has added Tim to the ODI squad as well.

Tim David to join the Australian ODI squad for the upcoming five-match series against South Africa

Australia posted a massive total of 226/6 in the first game. Captain Mitchell Marsh smashed an unbeaten 92 runs off 49 balls, including 13 fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 187.76. On the other hand, David did what he was expected to deliver. He slammed a 28-balls 64 with seven fours and four towering sixes and scored a brilliant strike rate of 228.57.

As a result, Australian team has decided to add David to their ODI squad to give them more options in the middle-order. Notably, the 27-years-old is yet to make his debut in 50-overs cricket. Meanwhile, he has played 16 List A games and has an average and strike rate of 82.77 and 123.14, respectively.

Though it looked pretty hard for him to make it to the World Cup squad, Australia wants to have more options. Australian selector Tony Dodemaide said, “Tim is already here for the T20 series, which offers an opportunity to see how his game can translate to the one-day format. He will provide an extra option for us in that power role at the back end of an inning.” Notably, David was likely to join the Trinbago Knight Riders for the ongoing CPL 2023 after the T20I series. But now he will be with Australian ODI squad.
