Former India captain Kapil Dev has also accused players of prioritising IPL over International cricket.

A lot of voices are coming out in the open as Team India’s mediocre approach is visible in their last few campaigns. After losing the World Test Championship final against Australia in England, the Indian batting lineup struggled against Jaded West Indies. India lost the 2nd ODI against the West Indies by 6 wickets and since then several former cricketers have come out questioning Indian team management and players' approach. Former Indian captain Kapil Dev has come out and once again raised a few pertinent questions in front of Team India.

'What happened to Jasprit Bumrah?'

Jasprit Bumrah is out of cricketing action since last year and underwent surgery for the treatment of his back injury. In an interview with The Week, Kapil Dev questioning Bumrah’s progression said, “What happened to Bumrah? He started working with so much belief, but if he’s not there in the World Cup (Semi-final or final), we wasted time on him. Rishabh Pant… such a great cricketer. Had he been there, our Test cricket would have been better”. Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer are going through injury and rehabilitation process with the World Cup just two months away.

Kapil accuses players of prioritising IPL

The 1983 World Cup winner Kapil Dev also slammed the player's attitude of prioritising Indian Premier League over International cricket. Kapil Dev said, “God is kind, it’s not as if I never got injured. But today, They are playing 10 months a year. Give the benefit of the doubt to that, but everybody has to look after themselves. IPL is a great thing but IPL can spoil you also. Because of a little bit of injuries and you will play in the IPL. A little bit of injury, you won’t play for India. You would take a break. I am being very open about it”.

Kapil Dev also suggested that the board has to understand and suggest the amount of cricket players should play. Kapil further added that the board needs to have a 3-5 years calendar. He said, “If today you have the resources and money, but you don’t have 3-5 year calendars. There’s something wrong with the cricket board there”. India will play two big events in the next 2-3 months. They will play in the Asia Cup in September and then the World Cup in October and November.
