Rishabh Pant made his debut in test cricket against England at Nottingham in August 2018.

Left-handed wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has established himself as one of the biggest match-winners with the bat for India in test cricket.

He made his test debut against England in August 2018 in Nottingham. Over the past seven years, while he’s still finding his feet in limited-overs cricket, the left-hander has already become one of India’s greatest keeper-batsmen of all time in test cricket.

Pant recently became the fastest Indian wicket-keeper to complete 2500 runs in test cricket, doing it in 62 innings. The 27-year-old has already played several match-winning knocks in the longest format, the most famous of which came at the Gabba in 2021 against Australia.

He is also the only Asian keeper in history to notch up a test century in England, Australia, and South Africa. Rishabh Pant, though, has also been very unlucky to have been dismissed multiple times in the scores of 90s. He has missed out on potentially seven more test centuries as he was dismissed in the 90s.

7 times when Rishabh Pant got out in the 90s in test cricket:

1. 92 vs West Indies, Rajkot, 2018

The first time that Pant got out in the 90s was against West Indies in Rajkot in October 2018. In India’s first innings, the hosts got a great start through Prithvi Shaw’s maiden test ton.

India aimed to score quickly in a bid to declare when Pant got out for 92 off 84 balls. India declared at 649/9, and then won the game by an innings and 272 runs.

2. 92 vs West Indies, Hyderabad, 2018

After registering 92 in the first test in Rajkot against West Indies in the 2018 series, Rishabh Pant registered an identical score in the second test against West Indies in Hyderabad. He got out on 92 off 134 balls in India’s first innings.

The hosts made 367 runs in their first innings around West Indies’ scores of 311 and 127 in two innings. India got a target of 72, which they chased down with ten wickets in hand.

3. 97 vs Australia, Sydney, 2021

Who can forget the famous Sydney draw on the 2020/21 tour of Australia when Ravichandran Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari dotted almost all of 43 overs to save the test match? That was the game which saw Rishabh Pant get out for the third time in the nervous nineties.

India were chasing 407 to win, and Pant came out with intent. He attacked the Australians bowlers, but got out only three runs away from a much-deserved century.

Pant made 97 off 118 in that innings. After that, Ashwin (39* off 128) and Hanuma Vihari (23* off 161) forged an unbeaten partnership to draw the game.

4. 91 vs England, Chennai, 2021

The fourth occasion when Rishabh Pant got out in the 90s was against England in Chennai in February 2021. It was one of the rare test matches that India lost at home since 2013.

England won that game by an innings and 227 runs, courtesy of Joe Root’s (218 and 40) brilliant display with the bat. Pant was India’s highest scorer in the first innings with 91 off 88 balls.

5. 96 vs Sri Lanka, Mohali, 2022

Against Sri Lanka in Mohali in 2022, Pant fell only four runs short of a three-digit score. India bagged the win by an innings and 222 runs with Ravindra Jadeja being the star of the match for his unbeaten 175 and nine wickets.

Pant also batted brilliantly, whacking 96 runs off 97 balls, with nine fours and four sixes in India’s first innings.

6. 93 vs Bangladesh, Mirpur, 2022

Rishabh Pant’s next score in the 90s came in Mirpur against Bangladesh in 2022. India won the test by three wickets. In reply to Bangladesh’s 227, India made 314 in their first innings.

Pant was the top scorer with his 93 off 104 balls. He missed another well-deserved century by just seven runs. He helped India get first innings lead of 87 runs, which helped them win a tight contest.

7. 99 vs New Zealand, Bengaluru, 2024

After MS Dhoni, Rishabh Pant became the second Indian keeper to get out on 99 in test cricket. This happened against New Zealand in Bengaluru in October 2024. Pant’s knock came when India were in a precarious situation.

After getting all out for 46 runs in the first innings, India started their second innings trailing by 356 runs. Pant came in to bat at 231/3 and scored a thrilling half-century.

He was proceeding smoothly towards what could’ve been his seventh test century but got out on 99 off 105 balls.
