3 times when Virat Kohli got out in 90s while chasing in ODIs

Virat Kohli is one of the greatest ODI batsmen who has ever walked in.
Unarguably, Virat Kohli is among the best batsmen ever to play for India. With more than 28,000 international runs, he is the second Indian legend, after Sachin Tendulkar, who has dominated the game across all formats.
Having retired from tests and T20Is, he is active in the ODI format at the moment. Even in the 50-over format, he follows Tendulkar at the second spot in the list of leading run-getters. Moreover, he holds the record for most tons in the format and is the only batter with over 50 centuries in ODI cricket.
Over the years, Kohli has been equally powerful in all three formats of the game. However, his batting increases fourfold while chasing. With his ability to chase targets like a walk in the park, Kohli has rightfully stolen the tag of Chase-Master.
Moreover, he has also recorded many centuries while chasing, but the Nervous ’90s is something that is out of Kohli’s radar. However, there have been a few instances when the veteran Indian batter was dismissed in the 90s in the second innings.
On that note, below are the three instances when Virat Kohli was dismissed in the 90s in ODIs while chasing.
3. 91 vs Bangladesh (Mirpur, Jan 2010)
India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka clashed in a tri-nation tournament in January 2010. In the third match of the campaign between India and Bangladesh, the former had a target of 297 runs. Batting at number six, Kohli was on his way to his century in the clash.
However, he became a victim of Shakib Al Hasan at 91 runs off 102 deliveries, hitting seven boundaries in the process. However, India won the clash by six wickets, thanks to a wonderful unbeaten century by MS Dhoni.
2. 95 vs New Zealand (Dharamsala, November 2023)

While the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is often considered a heartbreaking moment for Indian fans, it is also remembered for Kohli’s marvellous form.
With 765 runs, he finished as the highest run-scorer in the tournament. He also hammered three centuries; however, he could not reach the three-figure mark in the league stage clash against New Zealand.
The 21st match of the tournament took place at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. After being asked to bat first, the Black Caps piled up 273/10 in the first innings with a century by Daryl Mitchell.
Showcasing his batting resilience, Kohli scored 95 runs off 104 balls before becoming a victim of Matt Henry. His innings was laced with eight boundaries and two sixes. Although he could not reach the three-figure mark, he played a pivotal role in the team’s victory by four wickets.
1. 93 vs New Zealand (Vadodara, January 2026)
Starting 2026 with a bang, the 37-year-old won the Player of the Match award in the first ODI between India and New Zealand in Vadodara. After being asked to bat first, the Black Caps posted 300/8 in the first innings.
Justifying his chase-master tag, Kohli brought the team home with his crucial half-century. However, he remained seven runs short of his century, getting out for 93 runs off 91 deliveries with eight boundaries and one six.
