Timor Leste's Suhail Sattar and Yahya Suhail clinch unique record, become first father-son duo to play international cricket together

Suhail Sattar and Yahya Suhail achieved the feat during Timor Leste’s first T20I match against Indonesia.

South Asian country Timor Leste’s players Suhail Sattar and Yahya Suhail have become the first father-son duo to play international cricket together. They achieved the feat during Timor Leste’s first international game against Indonesia on November 6 (Thursday).

Timor Leste are currently part of the Indonesia Tri-Series 2025, which also comprises Myanmar. They played their first game of the campaign against hosts Indonesia on November 6 at Udayana Cricket Ground, Bali. Both 50-year-old Suhail Sattar and 17-year-old Yahya Suhail were part of playing XI in the match.

While Suhail Sattar scored 14 runs, Yahya Suhail got out for one run as Timor Leste were bowled out for 61 runs in the encounter. Later, Indonesia won by 10 wickets, chasing down the target in just four overs. Timor Leste have lost all three games so far in the Indonesia Tri-Series, witnessing a dismal start in international cricket.

Notably, Suhail Sattar and Yahya Suhail are not the first parent-child duo to play together in an international match. Switzerland Women’s mother-daughter duo Metty Fernandes and Naina Metty Saju played six T20Is together earlier this year.

Meanwhile, there are several instances of a father-son duo playing together as well as against each other in domestic cricket. West Indies’ Shivnarine Chanderpaul and his son Tagenarine Chanderpaul have played 11 first-class games together for Guyana. Recently, in Shpageeza Cricket League final 2025, Afghanistan’s all-rounder Mohammad Nabi played against his son Hassan Eisakhil.

Meanwhile, Timor Leste will play their next game in the Indonesia Tri-Series 2025 against Myanmar on November 9.
