England captain Ben Stokes has scored third-most runs in the ICC World Test Championship history.

The introduction of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) in 2019 brought the interest of fans back to test cricket as it provided significance to each game, especially the dead rubbers. It has given the teams and players an incentive to push to win every single game they play.

Since 2019, there have been several incredible batting performances in test cricket. A few batters have been impressively consistent in the longest format since the introduction of the WTC.

In this article, we will talk about the top five run-scorers in the World Test Championship. The list is dominated by England and Australian batsmen and, surprisingly, there is no Indian batsman in it.

List of top five batsmen with most runs in the ICC World Test Championship history:

5. Usman Khawaja (AUS) – 2686 runs

Australian opener Usman Khawaja has scored the most runs as an opener in the World Test Championship and he is fifth in the overall list. The left-hander cemented his place in the side since his return in the 2022 Ashes.

In the WTC, Khawaja has scored 2686 runs in 32 matches at an average of 49.74 with a best of 195 not out. He has scored seven centuries and 12 half-centuries in this period.

4. Ben Stokes (ENG) – 3101 runs

In the WTC, Stokes has played 48 matches and scored 3101 runs at an average of 37.81 with a best of 176. He has registered seven centuries and 16 half-centuries in the WTC.

Though Steve Smith’s form has declined slightly in the last year, he remains one of the best batsmen in test cricket in the world. The former Australian captain is now trying to settle down in the new role of an opener.

In the WTC history, Smith has featured in 45 tests and scored 3486 runs at an average of 50.52 with a best of 211. Smith has slammed nine centuries alongside 17 half-centuries.

2. Marnus Labuschagne (AUS) – 3904 runs

Along with Smith, Marnus Labuschagne is someone on whom Australia have relied a lot since his return to the side in the 2019 Ashes. He has been the top run-getter for his country in the WTC and has even overshadowed Smith at times.

Marnus has played a total of 45 tests in the WTC and scored 3904 runs at an average of 52.05 with a best of 215. He has racked up 19 half-centuries and 11 centuries so far in the World Test Championship.
