Top 5 batsmen Stuart Broad has dismissed most times in test cricket

Stuart Broad picked 604 wickets for England in 167 matches he played in the longest form of the game.

England’s legendary pace bowler Stuart Broad has bid adieu to cricket after the Oval test against Australia. Broad’s final frontier for England was Australia. Broad made a bombshell announcement of his retirement at the end of day 3 of the fifth Ashes 2023 test. In a fairytale ending to his career, Broad retired on a high with England’s win over Australia in the fifth test at The Oval, adding to that, he also picked the winning wicket on the final ball he delivered in international cricket.

Broad in his glorious 17-year-long career for England has achieved many things. He has retired as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in test cricket with 604 scalps to his name. Muttiah Muralitharan is the leading wicket-taker in tests with 800 wickets, followed by Shane Warne (708), James Anderson (690), and Anil Kumble (619)

Broad had a lot of personal battles as well in red-ball cricket. There were batters known as ‘Bunnies of Broad’ and whenever he bowled them they succumbed to his magnificent spells.

New Zealand opener Tom Latham has struggled to score runs against Stuart Broad. Broad’s love and affair with Left hand-opening batters is not new and had made most of them struggle with angles. Stuart Broad has dismissed Tom Latham for the 10 times in test cricket and Latham was also his 400th Test wicket. Latham struggled a lot against Broad’s in-swinger. 

4 . AB de Villiers – 10 Times:

Former South African captain AB de Villiers is considered one of the legendary batters in all three formats. Not many have excelled in all three formats in the current generation. Ab De Villiers also has his poor share of luck against England’s Stuart Broad. De Villiers has an average below 20 against Stuart Broad in tests as Broad dismissed him 10 times whenever they both faced.

Former Australian skipper Michael Clarke also had his share of problems while facing Stuart Broad. As these two teams have faced each other quite a lot in Ashes every two-year cycle, Broad made Australians bite the dust in England on several occasions. Broad may have dismissed Steve Smith 11 times in test cricket, but Smith also has better numbers as a batter against Broad. Smith averages above 45 against England’s pacer while losing his wicket 11 times to the Englishman. 

1 . David Warner – 17 Times:

Stuart Broad vs David Warner has been a battle to watch for in the recent 5-6 years. Broad has troubled Warner a lot with his Round the wicket angle. Broad made him his walking wicket during the last Ashes series in 2019 in England. Broad got him out 8 times in identically the same dismissals. Warner has struggled against Broad and lost his wicket 17 times to Stuart Broad.
