Team India are one of the top sides in the game of cricket. They are the top-ranked team across formats. Especially in test cricket, the record of Indian team in the last five to six years has been exceptional. They have dominated the other teams at home and recorded some incredible wins. This is all because of some brilliant bowlers on the team.

In the previous era, India were mainly dependent on their spinners to win them the test matches. But the last decade or so saw a number of Indian pacers doing well. As a result, India have succeeded in dismissing the opposition to some of the lowest totals as well. Here we will talk about the top five lowest totals against India in test cricket.

5 – Sri Lanka – 82, Chandigarh, 1990

Team India won a one-off test match against Sri Lanka in Chandigarh in November 1990 by an innings and 8 runs. India batted once and made 288 runs. Sri Lanka were dismissed for just 82 runs in the first innings courtesy of Venkatapathy Raju’s 6/12. India enforced follow-on, Sri Lanka could only manage to score 198 runs in the second innings and lost the test match.

4.  England – 81, Ahmedabad, 2021:

Barring the first two games, the four-match test series between India and England in 2021 was a low-scoring series. Both teams registered a number of low scores in it. England’s lowest total against India came in the third test in Ahmedabad. They scored 112 in the first innings and 82 in the second innings. Axar Patel took 6/38 and 5/32 in the game and India won by ten wickets.

3. South Africa – 79, Nagpur, 2015 :

South Africa have the third lowest test total against India. It came in a test played in Nagpur during South Africa’s 2015 tour, when South Africa were bundled out for 79 runs in their first innings. Ravi Ashwin (5/32) and Ravindra Jadeja (4/33) bowled brilliantly for India. The hosts won that game by 124 runs.

2. New Zealand – 62, Wankhede, 2021 :

The second-lowest total against India in tests was registered by New Zealand. It occurred when New Zealand came to India for a two-match test series in 2021. It was the second game of the series at Wankhede Stadium. Batting first, India made 325 runs. In reply, New Zealand got all out for 62 runs. Ravi Ashwin ended with figures of 4/8 in that innings. Eventually, India won that game by 372 runs. This is India’s highest win-margin in test cricket. In the same match, New Zealand’s Ajaz Patel took 10 wickets against India in the first innings.

1 – South Africa – 55, Cape Town, 2024 :

The lowest innings total against India in test cricket came in the very first test match for India in 2024. Indian team faced South Africa in Cape Town after losing the first game by an innings and 32 runs. South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first. But that decision backfired on them. India bowled them out for just 55 runs in 23.2 overs. Mohammed Siraj registered his career-best figures of 6/15.
