Some of the Indian bowlers have come up with exceptional performances in the T20 World Cup over the years.

The phrase bowlers win you tournaments forever holds true, and India have been blessed with some of the best who not only prevent batters from scoring quickly, but also keep chipping away with wickets to hold back opponents from scoring big totals.

India‘s fast bowling has improved massively in recent years, after being a largely spin bowling nation. Having success as a bowler in shortest format of the game is a very difficult task, but some of them have mastered it and have even dominated the oppositions.

The value of wickets gets doubled when they come in T20 World Cups. A few Indian bowlers have brought their best in the tournament, recording incredible spells. Today in this article we take a look at the five highest wicket takers for the nation in the T20 World Cup history.

5. Ravindra Jadeja – 22

Ravindra Jadeja has always controlled the middle overs for India with the ball, with his defensive bowling. Jadeja is accurate and quick, and rarely goes for too many runs even on good batting tracks. He can fire it into the blockhole and doesn’t allow batters to adjust to the conditions on offer.

The all-rounder is a nightmare to face on slow, turning pitches, which has helped him claim the fifth spot on this list. Jadeja retired from T20Is after India’s triumph against South Africa at the 2024 T20 World Cup.

4. Hardik Pandya – 29

Hardik Pandya has become a genuine wicket taker in this format, with his variations and pace. Pandya has improved his bowling over the years, having a dangerous bouncer to his disposal which he uses whenever he is under pressure.

Pandya also uses his slower deliveries and off-cutters to good use on pitches where help is available for the bowlers. With a long career ahead of him, Hardik is expected to only climb to the top of this list in the future.

2. Arshdeep Singh – 32

Arshdeep Singh has ended India’s long wait for a quality left-arm pacer since Zaheer Khan. Arshdeep can bowl across phases, mainly the toughest passages including the powerplay and death overs, which make him such an important asset. He recently claimed a five-fer against New Zealand in 2026.

2. Ravi Ashwin – 32

Ravichandran Ashwin is one of India’s all-time best spinners across formats. Known for his tactical intelligence and variations including carrom balls and adding the leg-spinning options later in his career, Ashwin had been MS Dhoni’s go-to man in the format. His best ever spell in the 20-over game came against Sri Lanka when he took 4/8.

1. Jasprit Bumrah – 33

Arguably the greatest ever T20I bowler the world has ever seen, Jasprit Bumrah reached the top of this list after picking a sensational three-wicker haul against South Africa in T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 clash. Bumrah is every captain’s dream bowler.

From pin-point yorkers to steaming bouncers, and gripping slower ones, Bumrah has it all. One expects him to go only upwards from here, and easily cross the 50+ mark in the future.

Who is India’s most successful bowler in T20 World Cups?

How many players from this list are still active?

Ravi Ashwin and Ravi Jadeja have retired from the T20I format. Rest including Arshdeep, Hardik, and Bumrah are still playing.
