Afghanistan gets their second win

Batting first, Afghanistan posted 284 runs on the board. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (80) and Ibrahim Zadran (28) added 114 runs for the opening wicket that set the tone for the rest of the innings. Afghan batters kept on adding pressure on the English bowling lineup and they built partnerships in small margins. Ikram Alikhil also contributed immensely with his half-century knock of 58 runs. Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s late flourish put Afghanistan to a challenging total of 284 runs.

Chasing 285, England had a poor start as Fazalhaq Farooqi dismissed opener Jonny Bairstow in his first ball. Bairstow was trapped in front and DRS favoured the umpire's call. Afghanistan opened the bowling with Mujeeb Ur Rahman which paid a great benefit to the Afghans. England looked a bit scared facing spin bowling as they were mostly trying to play on the back foot. Root and Jose Buttler’s wicket came as a game-changing moment for Afghanistan.

Harry Brook was the only batter that kept rotating the strike for England as he scored 66 runs in 61 balls on his course to his 2nd ODI half-century. Afghanistan are now 6th in the points table with 2 points in 3 games. Afghanistan have won one and lost two of their 3 league games. England remain 5th in the table with 2 points and a similar situation in the league round. This loss will put England’s World Cup campaign in jeopardy.
