Angelo Mathews was dismissed âTimed Outâ in a match against Bangladesh in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
In the 38th match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Delhi on November 6, 2023, Sri Lankaâs Angelo Mathews put his name into the history books, becoming the first cricketer to be given out on a rare mode of dismissal known as âtimed out.â Mathewsâ unfortunate dismissal added another layer to the already intense rivalry between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Bangladesh winning the toss chose to field first, Sri Lanka are batting on 168/5 in 30.5 overs. Pathum Nissanka scored 41 runs, followed by Sadeera Samarawickramaâs 41. Matthews, walked in to bat when Sri Lanka were on 135/4 in 24.2 overs.

Angelo Mathews leisurely walked out to the middle, he took his own time even before he reached the crease. The situation grew even more peculiar when he had an issue with his helmet, leading him to call for a replacement. Meanwhile, Shakib and Bangladeshi team used the opportunity to appeal for a time-out, as per the rules governing this rare mode of dismissal. The umpires, bound by the regulations, had no choice but to grant the time-out, despite Mathewsâ efforts to plead his case.
