Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan picked 9 wickets among them in the 1st ODI against South Africa.

A young Indian pace attack has run through the South African batting lineup at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Indian bowlers have rattled South Africa after being put to take the field by Proteas skipper Aiden Markram. Indian pace attack led by Arshdeep Singh (5/37) and Avesh Khan (4/27) ran through the South African batting lineup as the hosts struggled to reach the triple digit mark in the first ODI match. KL Rahul-led Indian side had a dominating day with the ball.

Cricket fans on social media started a meme-fest after South Africa struggled to score big against India in their last two ODI innings consecutively. India bowled out South Africa for just 84 runs in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match played at Eden Gardens. Social media was in full praise of Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh who bowled magical spells to put South Africa under pressure in the game. Aiden Markram won the toss and elected to bat.

Arshdeep – Avesh rattle South Africa

It all started with Arshdeep Singh picking up Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen on duck in successive deliveries. This one over put South Africa under enormous pressure and they couldn’t get any respite after that. A little partnership started to build up for the 3rd wicket when Tony De Zorzi (28) and skipper Aiden Markaram (12) added 39 runs. Arshdeep Singh dismissed Tony De Zorzi and broke the partnership.

Arshdeep Singh got Heinrich Klassen out in his next over to picked up his 4th in the game. After Arshdeep Singh, it was Avesh Khan’s turn who got two in two in his second over. Avesh (4/27) dismissed captain Aiden Markram and Wian Mulder to bring South Africa 6 down for just 52 runs. David Miller also couldn’t do much and was caught by skipper KL Rahul behind the stumps for two runs. Avesh completed his 4-wicket haul after dismissing Keshav Maharaj.

Arshdeep Singh (5/37) picked up his maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs by dismissing Andile Phehlukwayo trapped in front. Arshdeep Singh played 3 ODIs before this match, and remained wicket-less in every single game. Andile Phehlukwayo (33) added 28 runs for the 9th wicket with Nandre Burger. Kuldeep Yadav picked up the last wicket of South African innings, dismissing Nandre Burger. India restricted South Africa for just 116 runs.
