"Repeat of 2023": Fans react as Australia beat India by 79 runs in the ICC U19 World Cup final
Australia U19 defeated India U19 in the final to lift their fourth ICC U19 World Cup title.
It looks like a repeat of 2023 as Australia have once again outclassed India in an ICC event final. Australia crushed India by a big margin of 79 runs in the final played at Willowmoore Park in Benoni. Earlier, Australia defeated India in the ICC Senior Men’s Cricket World Cup final played in November 2023 which was played in Ahmedabad. They also won the ICC World Test Championship 2023 defeating India in the final played at The Oval, London.
After defeating India in the final, Australia have finally ended their 14-year wait for another U19 World Cup title. They won their fourth U19 World Cup title. Hugh Weibgen became the fourth Australian skipper to enter the elite list of Australian captains with a U19 title win after Geoff Parker, Cameron White and Mitchell Marsh. Australia’s last U19 World Cup win came in 2010 under Mitchell Marsh’s captaincy. Australia remained unbeaten in the ICC U19 World Cup 2024 and won seven out of seven games they played in the tournament.
Fans remember ‘2023’
Fans on Social media remember India’s previous two final defeats against Australia in ICC event finals. Twitter feed was full meme-fest as Australia snatched the champions crown from India U19 side. India won the previous edition which was played in the West Indies in 2022 under Yash Dhull’s leadership. India are the most successful team in the ICC U19 World Cup with five title victories.
Here’s how twitter reacted to Australia defeating India in the ICC U19 World Cup 2024:
Australia U19 won the toss and elected to bat first in the game and put India under pressure. India struggled to chase down the target in semi-final, but somehow managed to win after losing early wickets, and Australia looked to utilise their opportunity. Indian-origin batter Harjas Singh played a terrific knock of 55 runs and added a few crucial partnerships to take his side to a modest total of 253 runs. Harjas was the top scorer for Australia and put them in a commanding position.
Indian batters struggled miserably and they were bundled out for 174 runs. Murugan Abhishek’s late blow helped India reduced the loss margin to double digits, M. Abhishek scored 42 runs while batting at number 8 for India. Indian batters failed to stitch partnerships in their innings and succumbed under pressure. Five out of seven Indian batters failed to go past double digits in the game. Opener Adarsh Singh was India’s top-scorer with 47 runs.
