New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell brought up his 5th ODI century.
The Kiwi all-rounder Daryl Mitchell has smashed his 5th ODI ton with a magnificent counter-attacking approach at HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. Daryl Mitchell was comfortable and took on Indian bowlers bravely even when New Zealand were two wickets down inside the first powerplay. He brought New Zealand back into the game with his powerful knock and a dominating 3rd wicket partnership along with Rachin Ravindra (75).
Fans were amazed at Mitchell’s approach in the game which made Rohit Sharma overwork on his strategies. Daryl Mitchell started the attack after spending a little time in the middle and took on Kuldeep Yadav. Social media was in full praise of the New Zealand all-rounder who went on to complete his 5th ODI and maiden World Cup century in 100 balls. Mitchell took on Kuldeep Yadav nicely in his innings and put India in a spot of bother.
Here's how twitter reacted to Daryl Mitchell's century against India:
Mitchell planned his attack
Team India are playing with only 5 bowlers in this game and Mitchell decided to go against Kuldeep Yadav to force India to bring out a part-timer or over bowl one of their key bowlers in the first half. Mitchell’s attack forced Rohit Sharma to over bowl Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja completed his 10 and Siraj completed his 8 overs inside the first 30 overs in the innings.
Daryl Mitchell smashed boundaries at ease against Indian spinners. He smashed 7 fours and 4 sixes in his innings to his hundred. Mitchell scored 48 runs in his century with rotation of strikes as well. Right-hand batter recently smashed a century against England just 8 ODIs ago for New Zealand. Mitchell also played an unbeaten 89-run knock against Bangladesh in Chennai. He has been one of the best batters for New Zealand in recent months.
Daryl Mitchell added 159 runs for the third wicket along with Rachin Ravindra and put the Blackcaps in a comfortable position. Rachin Ravindra scored 75 runs in 87 balls with 6 fours and a six. They both took New Zealand’s score to 178 in 33 overs from 19 for 2 in 8 overs. Kiwis had a poor start to their innings as opener Devon Conway was dismissed on duck when Shreyas Iyer took a screamer to dismiss him. Will Young perished after scoring 17.
