Tilak Varma powered India to a 2-0 lead in the series.
After blasting twin centuries in South Africa a couple of months ago, Tilak Varma produced a splendid show of temperament in the 2nd IND vs ENG T20I in Chennai on Saturday to guide India to a 2-0 series lead.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and opted to bowl in Chennai. Arshdeep Singh once again dismissed Phil Salt early on, while Ben Duckett was dismissed by Washington Sundar for only three runs.
Jos Buttler held his end once but others around him faltered after getting starts. Buttler scored 45 but none of the other top 7 batsman scored more than 25.
England got some late impetus from Brydon Carse, whose 31 off 17 took them to 165, still not a competitive total as dew started to settle in.
For India, Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy were the standout bowlers, both picking up two wickets each.
In the chase, India lost Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma early on but Tilak Varma counter-attacked. Captain Suryakumar, too, flopped before Dhruv Jurel and Hardik Pandya fell cheaply.
Varma got support from Washington Sundar, who scored 26 runs off 19 balls. Varma stayed till the end, cracking 72 unbeaten runs off 55 balls, with four fours and five sixes to take India over the line with two wickets in hand and four balls to spare.
