Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Najmul Hossain Shanto put up centuries to take Bangladesh out of trouble against Afghanistan.

Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Najmul Hossain Shanto have scripted history for Bangladesh in One-day International cricket. Najmul Hossain and Mehidy Hassan have become 5th pair for Bangladesh to have scored hundreds in the same ODI. Mehidy and Najmul both have scored their 2nd ODI centuries. They both put Bangladesh in a commanding position against Afghanistan in their final league of Group B.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz along with Najumul Hossain Shanto has put Bangladesh in a strong position with their partnership against Afghanistan at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Miraz and Shanto added a huge 194-plus stand for the 3rd wicket. Unfortunately, Mehidy had to walk back as he hurt his left hand while playing stroke. He also looked drained out in a sweat as he spent 42 overs on the wicket. Mehidy was asked to open in the absence of regular openers Litton Das and Tamim Iqbal.

Spin all-rounder Miraz completed his century in 115 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. Bangladeshi fans were absolutely thrilled after Miraz’s innings and his partnership alongside Najmul Hossain Shanto. They kept the scoring rate on the higher side during their partnership and didn’t let Afghanistani spinners create any pressure in the middle overs. Najmul Hossain also kept his good form going in the Asia Cup and smashed his 2nd ODI Ton.

Najmul Hossain was unfortunately run-out on 104 runs score as he slipped while stealing a single. Najmul Hossain Shanto complimented Mehidy Hasan Miraz really well and smashed 9 fours and 2 sixes in his century knock. Najmul Hossain Shanto also became the leading run-scorer in the Asia Cup 2023 with two back-to-back fifty-plus scores in the tournament. Najmul smashed 89 runs against Sri Lanka in the opening game. 

Bangladesh are looking to get to the 330+ runs mark as they have a magnificent middle-over stand between Mehidy and Najmul Hossain. Mushfiqur Rahim also got runout after playing a crucial cameo of 25 runs in just 15 balls. Shakib is still there at the wicket. Chasing a big total will not be easy but Mehidy’s injury will definitely give Afghanistan a respite in their chase.
