India's tour of South Africa 2024
"Miyaan Magic" Twitter erupts as Mohammed Siraj breathes fire, takes 6/15 in his opening spell vs SA in the 2nd test

Mohammed Siraj picked up 6 wickets in the opening spell against South Africa in Cape Town.
Mohammed Siraj has once again proved to be a game-changer for India with his opening spell. This time he has done it in the second test to rattle South African top-order at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town. Siraj picked up 6 wickets in his opening spell. He got both South African openers out early in his spell and put Proteas on the back foot.
South African skipper Dean Elgar won the toss and elected to bat first in the second test match in Cape Town. The wicket looked a bit dry and Elgar thought of using the sunny conditions. Both Siraj and Bumrah put India on top of the game with their bowling.
Mohammed Siraj’s lethal opening spell in Cape Town
Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj started by dismissing opener Aiden Markram (2) in his second over. Markram looked for a drive but got an outside edge that straight went to Yashasvi Jaiswal who was positioned at second slip. 13 balls later, Siraj sent South African skipper, Dean Elgar back in the pavilion. Elgar was South Africa’s match-winner in the first test in Centurion.
Here’s how twitter reacted to Mohammed Siraj’s spell:
Mohammed Siraj troubled Dean Elgar (4) a lot with his fuller length deliveries which were away from the off-stump. Elgar looked to play a punch in the sixth over of the innings, but failed to connect. The ball took an inside edge and went crashing onto the stumps. Siraj also got Tony de Zorzi (2) out early in the innings. De Zorzi was caught down the leg by wicket-keeper KL Rahul in the 10th over of the innings.
David Bedingham became Mohammed Siraj’s fourth scalp. Bedingham was caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal at the third slip. He came forward to defend the ball but got a big edge. Later in the same over, Mohammed Siraj completed his third test five-wicket haul by dismissing Marco Jansen. Wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynne was Siraj’s sixth wicket in his opening spell. This is for the first time Siraj has picked up 6 wickets in an innings in test cricket.
