IND vs ENG: Twitter celebrates Ravi Ashwin's entry into '500 test wickets' club

England opener Zack Crawley became Ravi Ashwin’s 500th test wicket.
Ravi Ashwin’s not so best ball in test cricket rewarded his 500th test wicket. Zack Crawley became his 500th test victim as the English opener was looking to play a sweep down to leg side but ended up top-edging to Rajat Patidar. Ravi Ashwin has become the latest entrant into the 500 wickets club in test cricket. India’s one of the biggest match-winners in test cricket, Ravi Ashwin has become only the second Indian after Anil Kumble and overall ninth bowler to complete this special milestone in test cricket.
Ace Indian off-spinner Ravi Ashwin has become the quickest Indian bowler to complete this milestone. Ashwin took only 98 test matches to complete 500 test wickets, while Anil Kumble took 107 test matches to complete this special milestone. Former Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan is the quickest bowler in the world to take 500 test wickets. Murali took only 87 test matches to reach this special milestone in his career.
Indian fans have celebrated Ashwin’s success on social media. Ashwin has been India’s one of the biggest match-winners in test cricket in the last decade or so. He scripted several match-winning performances in this format of the game. In December 2023, Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon became the eighth bowler in the world to take more than 500 test wickets. Lyon’s 500th test wicket came against Pakistan in Perth.
Here’s how twitter reacted to Ashwin joining the 500 test wickets club:
Ravichandran Ashwin made his test debut against West Indies at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium (now Arun Jaitley Stadium) in Delhi in 2011. Ashwin dominated the Indian conditions extremely well and picked up his almost 70 percent wickets in India. Ashwin is just three wickets away from completing 350 wickets in India. He is also the third leading wicket-taker in the ICC World Test Championship with 158 wickets after Pat Cummins (169) and Nathan Lyon (174).
Leg-spinner Anil Kumble is India’s leading wicket-taker in this format with 619 wickets in 132 matches. Ashwin is India’s first-ever cricketer to achieve a double of 3000 runs and 500 wickets in test cricket.
