With the win against LSG, RCB have now moved second on the points table and have confirmed their place in Qualifier 1.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) booked their berth in Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as they beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a high-scoring thriller. They won the game by wickets at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Asked to bat, LSG didn’t have a great start to their innings as they lost debutant Matthew Breetzke (14) early. But, after that, it was a run feast for them as Mitchell Marsh (67) and skipper Rishabh Pant (118*) made the RCB bowlers look clueless.
The duo added 152 runs for the second wicket and put their team at the top. Skipper Pant slammed his second ton in the league and batted till the last over. Thanks to his brilliant innings with the bat, LSG posted a massive total of 227 for three.
In the chase, RCB got off to a flying start as Phil Salt (30) and Virat Kohli (54) batted with positive intent. They added 61 runs for the opening partnership, but after that, LSG made a brilliant comeback and picked wickets quickly, leaving Bengaluru at 123 for four.
However, Mayank Agarwal (41*) and stand-in skipper Jitesh Sharma (85*) brought their team back in the game. Jitesh, in particular, took charge and led from the front, slamming his first fifty in the IPL. Mayank, at the other end, played a perfect second fiddle as RCB chased the target with six wickets in hand.
With the win, RCB now moved to second on the points table. They will now face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 1, which will take place at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh on 29th May.
