India and South Africa are taking on each other for the of the series decider at Boland Park, Paarl, with South Africa winning the toss and opting to bowl. India made two changes to their side as Rajat Patidar made his debut for India, but couldnโ€™t deliver and departed early.

As the innings progressed, it was Sanju Samson who came in at No. 3 stole the spotlight and smashed his maiden century in international cricket. Samson made his India debut way back in 2015, when he played a T20I against Zimbabwe. He had to wait until 2020 to play his next international match for India. In 2021, he made his ODI debut for India, when the country toured Sri Lanka with a second-string squad.

Samson, who has faced criticism in the past for inconsistent performances, silenced his critics with a stellar knock of 108 runs off 114 balls. The innings was a testament to his resilience and ability to anchor the innings, especially under pressure in a series-deciding match. With six boundaries and three sixes, Samson showcased both elegance and power, with a strike rate of 94.73.

The innings had its share of partnerships, with Tilak Varma playing a crucial role, contributing 52 runs off 77 balls. The duoโ€™s partnership of 116 runs for the fourth wicket laid the foundation for Indiaโ€™s competitive total. Rajat Patidar (22) and KL Rahul (21) also chipped in with a few runs.

Samsonโ€™s innings not only showcased his skill but also highlighted the confidence the team management has in his abilities. Despite facing criticism for inconsistent performances, the teamโ€™s decision to persist with him paid off in the crucial series decider.

At the time of writing, India were batting on 246/5 (45.3 ov) after losing the centurion.
