Shaheen Afridi removed the Indian top-order batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in successive overs.

Shaheen Afridi has once again come out victorious in his personal battle against Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Shaheen Afridi picked up both of India’s premier batters, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, in quick succession at Pallekele Cricket Stadium in Kandy. India openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill had a decent start and went steadily against Pakistan's pace attack, but right after the 4th over, rain caused an interruption for almost 30 minutes in the game. This break gave Shaheen Afridi and the Pakistan camp time to reflect and come more aggressively against Indian openers.

Twitter goes crazy

Soon after Shaheen Afridi got Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in quick succession, he started trending on social media, and fans from across the border started praising his ability and talent to consistently create trouble for these two legendary batters from India. Shaheen Afridi troubled these two more often in their battle and became a threatening weapon for his team. Pakistani fans were thrilled to see their rising star once again taking control in the game against their arch-rivals India in Asia Cup 2023 league encounter.

Here's how twitter reacted to Shaheen Afridi's spell:

Shaheen was getting the movement he needed, and the heavy weather conditions were also lending a helping hand to him. Shaheen changed his length and pulled it back a little against Rohit. One of his in-1swingers deceived Indian captain Rohit Sharma as it was more on the pace side than Rohit was expecting, and that went straight hitting his off-stump. Rohit could only manage to score 11 runs in 22 balls before he walked back to the pavilion in Kandy. This gave Pakistan a sense of opportunity to take control of the Indian innings.

Soon after, Shaheen also got Virat Kohli as he was trying to poke one of his outside-off deliveries. Virat was trying to punch through the covers but failed to reach the middle. He got an inside edge that went straight to rattling his off-stump and bails. These two quick wickets put India in trouble. Making his comeback after an injury break, Shreyas Iyer also walked back to the pavilion after playing a rash shot against Haris Rauf. Iyer tried to play a pull shot but was caught at mid-wicket by Fakhar Zaman. India are three down, and once again, rain has come in to disrupt the proceedings.
