Cricketing fraternity pours wishes as legendary Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh celebrates 43rd birthday
Yuvraj Singh played 40 tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is for India from 2000 to 2017.
Yuvraj Singh, the Indian all-rounder is celebrating his 43rd birthday today on December 12, 2024. Singh was part of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ICC World Cup wins. He even won the Player of the Series award in 2011 ICC World Cup for his all-round performance.
Yuvraj Singh made his India debut in 2000 against Kenya in the ICC Knockout Trophy in Nairobi. And soon, he made himself known, thanks to a brilliant knock of 80-odd against Australia in his first outing with the bat.
Soon, thanks to his explosive strokeplay, left-arm spin, and excellent fielding, Yuvraj became an important member of the Indian team. He excelled particularly in white-ball cricket.
However, due to the presence of some stalwarts in the middle order of the Indian team, Yuvraj’s test career was only limited to 40 tests, in which he scored 1900 runs with a couple of centuries to his name.
Most of his accomplishments came in the 50-over format. He played 304 ODIs throughout his career and scored 8701 runs at an average of 36.55 laced with 14 centuries and 52 fifties. He also took 111 wickets with his left-arm spin with best bowling figures of 5/31
He brought out his best when it mattered as he scored 783 runs across three ODI World Cups (2003, 2007, and 2011) slamming a century and seven fifties for an average of 52.71 and strike rate of 90.33. In the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj claimed four Man of the Match awards, joining legends Aravinda de Silva and Lance Klusener in holding this joint record.
He played 58 T20Is, scoring 1177 runs with 8 fifties to his name. He has 28 wickets to his name with a best of 3/17.
Yuvraj Singh receives birthday wishes as he turns 43
However, more than anything else, Yuvraj Singh is known for being the first Indian and first batter to hit six sixes in an over in T20Is. He achieved the feat in the 2007 T20 World Cup against England when he smoked Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over and completed a then-record 12-ball T20I fifty.
Yuvraj also had an excellent career in IPL, playing for various franchises like Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru), Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians. He captained the Punjab franchise for the first 2 years of the IPL and won the tournament as part of the Sunrisers team in 2016.
He played his last match for India in 2017 and his last IPL match in 2018 and retired from international cricket in 2020.
Today as he celebrates his 43rd birthday, Yuvraj Singh received wishes from across the cricket fraternity.
