AUS vs WI: Travis Head set to play in Gabba test despite being tested positive for Covid-19

Australian middle order Travis Head tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the second test against West Indies at the Gabba in Brisbane. Despite having Covid-19, Travis Head looks set to play in the second test. Australia and West Indies will battle in the final test match of the two-match test series in Brisbane. The second test will begin on 25th January. Australia decimated the West Indies in the opening test at Adelaide Oval.
Middle-order batter Travis Head scored a crucial century against the West Indies and took his side to a comfortable lead in the first innings of the first test. Travis Head scored 119 runs in the first innings and helped Australia get a lead of 95 runs. Head played a counter-attacking knock at the Adelaide Oval. He smashed 12 fours and 3 big sixes in his innings. Travis Head had a terrific last 10 months at international level.
Travis Head to arrive in Brisbane soon
Travis Head delayed his arrival to Brisbane by a day to allow himself one more rest day while recovering from Covid-19. Head was expected to arrive in Brisbane on Tuesday evening, but he is still in Adelaide and recovering from Covid-19. Head will be joining the Australian camp soon in Brisbane, where the second test will begin on Thursday. Australian team management is also hopeful that Head’s Covid-19 test results will come back negative.
Australian skipper Pat Cummins also informed the press that Travis Head is almost out of Covid-19 and feeling perfectly fine. Cummins said, “Think He is almost out of it. He is fine, feeling good. Think he will train tonight. Obviously, even if he is still positive he can still play, there will just be a few protocols. But think he is pretty close to a negative.” Travis Head is a crucial cog in Australian middle-order.
Australian left-hand opening batter Usman Khawaja has also cleared the concussion test and is deemed fit for the upcoming second test against West Indies. Usman Khawaja suffered a huge blow on his head in the first test off Shamar Joseph’s bouncer. Steve Smith will be accompanying Usman Khawaja in the opening slot. Matt Renshaw will have to wait for his opportunity after David Warner’s retirement to open for Australia in tests.
