Pakistan's approach cost them the game

Pakistan's top-order had a magnificent start, but their middle-order’s approach in the middle overs costed them the game against Afghanistan. Pakistan had a decent start to their innings, with Abdullah Shafique (58) and captain Babar Azam (74) playing big knocks. Babar Azam took 92 balls to score 74 with only four fours and a six. Pakistan went above par with the efforts from Iftikhar Ahmed (40 runs in 27 balls) and Shadab Khan (40 runs in 38 balls) at the end.

Afghanistan included Noor Ahmed as one extra spinner for today’s game, and he didn’t disappoint his team. Noor Ahmed picked up three wickets in his 10 overs and conceded only 49 runs. Pakistan posted 282 runs on the board, and openers Ibrahim Zadran (87) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65) set the tone for the chase and added 130 runs in 21 overs. Pakistan never looked in control and missed several chances in the field.

Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi (48) and Rahmat Shah (77) took their team home with their unbeaten 96 runs partnership for the 3rd wicket. Afghanistan batters were cautious with their approach in the chase, and they won a historical encounter. Pakistan’s chances in the World Cup are fading away with their third consecutive loss. Pakistan lost their previous encounter against Australia in Bangalore.
