India's tour of West Indies 2023
Twitter bows down to Yashasvi Jaiswal as the youngster smashes century on test debut

Yashasvi Jaiswal is 3rd Indian opener after Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw to hit a century on test debut.
21-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal became the 3rd Indian opener, 17th Indian batter, and overall the 115th batter in Test history to score a century in his Test debut, which came on the second day of the ongoing first West Indies vs India Test match being played at Windsor Park in Dominica.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was included in the Indian squad for the WTC 2023 final against Australia recently as a backup opener, after having an amazing domestic season for Mumbai and then smashing 625 runs in 14 matches in IPL 2023 for Rajasthan Royals, including a century and the fastest-ever fifty in IPL history off just 13 balls.
Since then, his name was being rumored to be in the Indian squad possibly in Tests and T20Is on the tour of the West Indies. But the new BCCI selection committee chose him for Tests while giving others a chance in the ODIs and T20Is.
With Cheteshwar Pujara dropped from the West Indies Tests, it was a toss between Shubman Gill and Jaiswal to open and when Gill picked the no.3 spot vacated by Pujara, Jaiswal was confirmed to make his Test debut in the first Test which began on July 12 at the Windsor Park, Roseau in Dominica.
Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes the third Indian opener after Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw to hit test ton on debut
Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma opened the innings for India after the bowlers had wrapped the West Indies innings for 150 runs with Ravichandran Ashwin taking 5/60 and Ravindra Jadeja pocketing three scalps.
After an initial period of jitters and butterflies, Yashasvi Jaiswal opened up and played a stroke-filled knock of 40* as India ended day one on 80/0 with Rohit Sharma on 30*.
Resuming his knock on day 2, Jaiswal found it hard to negotiate the spin and bounce achieved by Rahkeem Cornwall on the pitch that aided spinners, and along with Rohit Sharma, he consolidated the innings with his strike rate going down.
However, he soldiered on to make his maiden Test fifty in 104 balls. He negotiated the pace better than spin and survived a tough period before lunch and he was cautious during the second session as well.
The moment of amazement came to Yashasvi Jaiswal as he paddle-swept fellow debutant Alick Athanaze for a single in the 70th over, to complete an amazing century on his Test debut. He celebrated the moment in style by raising his arms, taking off his helmet, and kissing the lid.
With this ton, he became only the third Indian opener after Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw to score a century on his Test debut and overall the 17th Indian batter to achieve this feat.
His feat was also lauded on social media by experts and fans alike.
