IPL 2023: Two people arrested by Bengaluru police for stealing Delhi Capitals’ players’ cricket kits
Delhi Capitals skipper Warner had thanked the police for recovering their kits including bats and pads and gloves.
Delhi Capitals’ Indian Premier League (IPL) team were in Bengaluru a few days back to play Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB) in the ongoing IPL 2023 and suffered not only on the field as they were handed a thrashing by the home team, but off the field as well.
When the team next traveled to Kolkata for their next match, it was discovered that multiple bats, gloves, thigh pads, pads, and other equipment were missing and assumed stolen.
The stolen items included three bats belonging to skipper David Warner, two belonging to all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, three belonging to wicketkeeper-batsman Phil Salt, and five belonging to youngster Yash Dhull. Some players also lost shoes, gloves, and other cricketing equipment. The value of foreign players' bats is around one lakh rupees each.
Franchise officials were informed of the loss and they immediately lodged a complaint about the mass stealing from the players’ kit bags. The matter is being investigated by the logistics department and the police.
Delhi Capitals managed to have a practice session on April 18, with some players contacting their agents to request that their bat companies send new bats before the next game.
Later the police recovered some of the equipment from the stolen cricket kits of the Delhi Capitals team, and DC captain David Warner took to social media to thank the authorities for finding the items and catching the culprits.
Police recover two cricket kits worth INR 16 lakhs from two people
On, Saturday, April 22, 2023, Acting on a complaint by Anand Agarwal, Managing Director of Express Freight System India, that transported these cricket kits, Cubbon Park Police have now arrested the driver of the vehicle that transported these kits and a courier boy who stole two kits, one for each of them.
Driver Cheluvaraju, 30, a resident of Chellaghatta, and the courier boy Sudhanshu Kumar Naik,30, hailing from Odisha were arrested by the police who recovered two cricket kits worth ₹16 lakhs. The police have seized 12 bats, 18 balls, 4 hand gloves, 2 helmets, 3 leg pads, 2 thigh pads, 1 center guard and 1 bag from the accused.
