PCB appoints Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal as Pakistan Cricket Team’s bowling coaches
Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal’s first assignment for Pakistan will be the upcoming tours of Australia and New Zealand.
Former Pakistan cricketers Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal have been appointed as fast bowling and spin bowling coaches for Pakistan men’s cricket team, respectively. This announcement was made by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on November 21, 2023.
Their first assignment will be the test series against Australia, set from December 14, 2023, to January 7, 2024, and the T20I series against New Zealand, scheduled from January 12 to 21, 2024.
Umar Gul made his international debut in 2003, representing Pakistan in 47 tests taking 163 wickets, he featured in 130 ODIs and picked up 179 wickets, and in 60 T20Is he took 85 wickets between 2003 and 2016.

Umar Gul has good experience as a bowling coach for several different teams, both internationally and in franchise T20 leagues. He was the bowling coach for Pakistan national team. He was also the bowling coach for the Quetta Gladiators in the previous PSL season.
“I am pleased to join as the bowling coach of the Pakistan team and feel honored to have been given the opportunity to contribute to Pakistan cricket by Chairman PCB Management Committee Zaka Ashraf. Having had previous working experience with the men’s side, I will bring my coaching expertise with the aim of elevating Pakistan’s bowling prowess to new heights,” Umar Gul was quoted by the PCB website.
On the other side, former world number one ODI bowler Saeed Ajmal will take up the role of spin bowling coach. Saeed, who made his international debut in 2008, has played 35 tests, 113 ODIs, and 64 T20Is for Pakistan, taking 447 wickets in all. He was also the spin bowling coach for Islamabad United in PSL.
“I am truly honored and grateful for the opportunity provided by the Chairman PCB Management Committee Mr Zaka Ashraf to serve as the spin bowling coach. I am delighted to contribute to the development of spin bowling talent within the Pakistan national team. I believe my career and coaching experience will help enhance the spin bowling arsenal of the team,” said Saeed Ajmal.
