Major update on MS Dhoni's availability for DC vs CSK clash of IPL 2026

MS Dhoni has not yet featured in any IPL 2026 match.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have witnessed a roller-coaster ride in the Indian Premier League 2026 so far. They began the tournament with three back-to-back defeats but bounced back by winning a few games. CSK also improved their position in the points table.
Ruturaj Gaikwad & Co. defeated their arch-rivals, the Mumbai Indians (MI), in both clashes; however, they completely failed to dominate powerful teams like the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Currently, the five-time champions sit sixth in the points table with eight points, having won four games and lost five of nine encounters. They are still in contention to book a berth in the playoffs, provided they capture maximum wins in their remaining five matches in the league stage.
Since the start of the season, Chennai missed their star wicket-keeper batter, MS Dhoni. The former CSK captain sustained a calf injury just at the start of IPL 2026 and was ruled out of the initial games.
At the start, the CSK management informed that Dhoni would miss two weeks of action due to injury. He recovered from his calf injury recently and also took part in training sessions. However, the veteran batter is still not match-fit.
MS Dhoni’s fitness update ahead of DC vs CSK clash
The Super Kings are set to face the Delhi Capitals (DC) in their next encounter. The match will take place on May 5 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. However, Dhoni is set to miss the clash.
Dhoni has not travelled to New Delhi with his CSK teammates and has stayed back in Chennai, where he continues his recovery from calf injury. Recently, CSK batting coach Michael Hussey had mentioned that Dhoni is working on his running between the wickets and is expected to play soon.
Despite his injury issues, the CSK management has not ruled him out of IPL 2026. “He should be available at some stage,” a senior CSK official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
Meanwhile, after the clash against the Delhi Capitals, Chennai will take on the Lucknow Super Giants on May 10, followed by another clash against them on May 15.
They will later face Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 18 before travelling to Ahmedabad for their final league match against Gujarat Titans on May 21.
