Major update on Nitish Kumar Reddy's health ahead of SRH vs PBKS clash of IPL 2026

Nitish Kumar Reddy to train with the team ahead of clash against Punjab Kings. 

Nitish Kumar Reddy has become an important player for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026). The young all-rounder has shown strong form with both bat and ball so far. His improved bowling speed has also impressed many fans and experts this year.

However, he missed the last match against the Kolkata Knight Riders due to illness. This forced the team to make a late change. His absence was clearly felt as Hyderabad suffered a heavy defeat in that match.

Now, SRH are preparing for a big game against the Punjab Kings on May 6. The match will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Both teams are fighting for playoff spots, which makes this clash very important.

Will Nitish Kumar Reddy play against the Punjab Kings?

There is some positive news for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Reddy’s fans. Head coach Daniel Vettori shared an update before the match. 

He said, “I spoke to him this morning, and he’s feeling a lot better. He’s going to train today, but we don’t foresee a situation where he won’t play tomorrow”. 

This statement gives hope that Reddy could return to the playing XI.

In the last match, Smaran Ravichandran replaced him in the team. SRH struggled without Reddy. The team was all out for just 165 runs in 19 overs and could not even bat for the complete 20 overs.

Kolkata Knight Riders easily chased the target in 18.2 overs to win the match by 7 wickets. The team will want Nitish Kumar Reddy back in the squad at the earliest for balance in both batting and bowling.

Notably, Reddy has not been in his best health since last year. He had earlier missed games due to fitness issues, including a quadriceps injury and neck spasms in 2025. His recent illness had raised serious concerns about his availability in the long term.

The upcoming match is crucial for both teams. Punjab Kings are currently at the top of the table with 13 points. Hyderabad are close behind with 12 points in 3rd position. A win here could almost confirm a playoffs spot for either side.

Reddy’s presence could be key in such a high-pressure game. His all-round skills give SRH more options.
