Usman Khawaja got retired hurt in the second innings of Adelaide test against West Indies.

Left hand batter will Usman Khawaja will be available for the second test against West Indies. Australian opener Usman Khawaja suffered a big blow on his head while chasing 26 runs in the Adelaide test. Khawaja got a hit on his head by one of Shamar Joseph’s bouncers. Australia needed just one run to win the game but Khawaja had to walk back retired hurt due to concussion protocol.

Usman Khawaja passed the concussion test in Australian dressing room and has not shown any symptoms since the first test concluded. Khawaja will be returning to training on Tuesday as Australian camp will be getting ready for the second test at Gabba. The second test will begin on 25th January. Australia have already taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match test series.

Usman Khawaja is fit for second test

Cricket Australia spokesperson informed about Usman Khawaja and said, “He completed normal concussion assessments today (Sunday). Khawaja will continue to be monitored for any delayed symptoms. He will be reviewed again tomorrow prior to returning to training.” Khawaja scored 45 runs in the first innings and retired hurt on just nine runs.

After the recent update, Australia side are likely to remain unchanged for the second test. Steve Smith was trusted with the opening responsibility in the first test played at Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. Steve Smith scored 12 runs in the first innings and was the first test victim of Shamar Joseph. Smith remained unbeaten on 11 runs in the second innings.

Australia picked Matt Renshaw as the reserve opening option in Australian squad for the two-match test series against West Indies. Left-hand batter Matt Renshaw will be waiting for his opportunity for some more time. Australia will carry on with Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc in the pace attack. They all have remained constant members in Australian lpaying XI this summer.
