Indian batter Virat Kohli has earned a badge of honor for maintaining his fitness throughout his career so far. There are only a very few occasions when Virat Kohli has missed a game in international cricket for India. Last time on South Africa tour, Virat Kohli had to sit on the bench because of an injury. Kohli’s fitness level has also become a benchmark for many in the team as well as for youngsters aspiring to make their career in any sport. Under his leadership, he made the yo-yo test compulsory for everyone in team India. Kohli shared a story on Instagram as he broke his own yo-yo test score.

Former India captain Virat posted a story on his Instagram and shared the news of breaching his own yo-yo test score. Kohli expressed his happiness and wrote, “The happiness of finishing the Yo-Yo test between the dreaded cones, 17.2 done.” Achieving anything under 16.5 is really a tough job for any sportsman in the yo-yo test, and his persistent focus on his fitness to keep himself ready for the games speaks a lot about his dedication. Virat Kohli always shares his videos and images from the gym to inspire millions of his fans to take fitness seriously in their careers.

What is Yo-yo test?

Yo-Yo test became a serious in Indian cricket under Virat Kohli’s leadership. It involves a running aerobic fitness test for players seeking an opportunity at any level. The yo-yo test is done to check the players’ fitness level by making them run for about 20 meters at a certain pace. It involves multiple levels to get a fair idea about fitness. The current benchmark yo-yo score for the Indian team is 16.2. Under coach Ravi Shastri and captain Virat Kohli, yo-yo test scores were a mandatory factor for team selection. This has widely improved the fitness of players.

Virat Kohli has not played in the T20I series against West Indies and Ireland. He is getting ready for the next big assignment in the Asia Cup. Team India will take on Pakistan on September 2 to open their Asia Cup 2023 campaign at Pallekele Stadium in Kandy. Virat Kohli was part of India’s tour of West Indies in test and ODI formats, but he didn’t get a chance to bat as the team management wanted to try out young players.
