"He invites us home to chill out": Virat Kohli opens up on Chris Gayle's hospitality ahead of WI tour

Virat Kohli has managed just 463 runs at a below-par average of 35.61 in his 13 Test innings in the West Indies.

Virat Kohli sang praises about his ex-RCB teammate Chris Gayle’s hospitality and said that the former West Indies captain always invites the Indian team to his house in Jamaica to chill out.

India is currently on the tour of the West Indies to play two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is beginning with the first Test in Dominica from July 12 onwards. This will also kickstart India's ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.

'Universe Boss' Chris Gayle asks the team to hang out when in his hometown of Jamaica, according to Kohli, who said he will meet the powerful West Indies batsman while he is in the Caribbean.

He also praised Gayle's humility and his outgoing nature, noting how much everyone on the team loves the Jamaican batsman.

"Well Chris, I have hung out with him for so many years. I am sure that when we are in Jamaica, we will definitely go and meet Chris. He always invites the team home to have a good time and just chill out.

So, I am sure he is going to do the same again if he is in town. Everyone loves him. We went last time as well to his place, we had a great time and he is such a humble guy. Definitely, if he is free and he is in town, sure we are going to catch up with him," Kohli said on Star Sports.

However, none of the matches are scheduled in Jamaica, where Gayle comes from.

My favorite memory obviously is Antigua: Virat Kohli

During an interaction on 'Follow the Blues' on Star Sports, Virat Kohli was also asked about his favorite memory of playing in the West Indies.

Kohli then replied his favorite memory is that of hitting a double-century in Antigua back in 2016, in front of legend Sir Viv Richards.

"My favorite memory obviously is Antigua. I got my first-ever double hundred in Test cricket in Antigua in front of Sir Vivian Richards. That for me was a very, very special moment and then he met me in the evening as well and congratulated me. It can't get any better than that," Kohli added.

In the 2016 Antigua Test match against the West Indies, Kohli scored 200 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin took seven wickets in the home team's second innings as India went on to win the match by an innings and 92 runs.
