Virat Kohli suffered an ankle injury during the RCB’s clash against Mumbai Indians.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) arrive at their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 home game against Lucknow Super Giants (LGS) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on 15 April . RCB have won three of their first four matches and sit third on the table. They also hold a solid 4-2 record over LSG. On the other side, LSG’s big hitters like Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant, and Nicholas Pooran haven’t really clicked yet.

RCB chased down 227 the last time these two met, winning by six wickets, so they definitely have the mental edge. Plus, playing at the Chinnaswamy is a massive plus for RCB, as the small boundaries and flat pitch, combined with a loud home crowd, make it a tough place for any visiting team.

During the game against the Mumbai Indians on 12 April, Virat Kohli scored a subdued 50 off 38 balls but stayed in the dugout during the second innings, spotted wearing a jacket on the sidelines. There were rumours he was dealing with a fever and an eye infection, but it was later confirmed that he was out with ankle injury.

Fans started panicking on social media, wondering if he’d even play against LSG. Despite the ankle issue, Kohli was back in the nets for a long session. He faced both the regular bowlers and the throw-down guys and looked pretty comfortable while hitting. That said, a video from LSG’s socials showed Kohli’s left knee heavily wrapped while he was chatting with Kane Williamson and Rishabh Pant.

When asked about it at the press conference, young pacer Rasikh Dar wouldn’t give anything away. Captain Rajat Patidar was a bit more open, saying Virat Kohli seems “okay right now,” but the doctors will make the final call.

Kohli has been on fire this season, racking up 179 runs at an average of 59.66 and a strike rate of 162.72. If RCB want to keep him off his feet, the impact player rule is the perfect fix. Kohli can just do his job with the bat and then let a sub take over in the field to avoid any extra strain.

He’ll have to watch out for Mohammed Shami, though, as Shami has got him out five times in T20s, even if Kohli still scores at nearly 140 against him. With the way he’s been hitting the ball lately, RCB will likely trust him to deliver, even with a strapped knee.

How does the Impact Player rule help an injured Virat Kohli?

It allows Kohli to contribute his runs during the first innings and then head to the dugout for rest while a substitute takes his place for the fielding half of the match.

What is the current status of Virat Kohli’s availability for the LSG game?

While Kohli looked sharp during a net session, his final availability depends on a last-minute assessment by the RCB medical team regarding his strapped knee.
