Virat Kohli only plays ODIs for India after T20I and test retirements
Virat Kohli has begun prepping for the white-ball Australia tour later this year. Kohli, who last appeared for India in their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 win in Dubai, has shifted his base to the UK, where he resides with his wife, actress Anushka Sharma, and two children, away from prying eyes.
Virat Kohli last appeared for India in white-ball cricket in March this year, when India defeated New Zealand in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai. Virat Kohli made 218 runs in five games, with one century that came against Pakistan and 84 against Australia in the semi-final of the tournament.
Kohli then played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), where he scored 657 runs in 15 innings, ending up as the third-highest run-getter. He helped RCB win their first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) title, also defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final.

Kohli had retired from T20Is after India’s T20 World Cup 2024 win over South Africa in Barbados. His test retirement came as a surprise in May this year, as many expected him to play the role of the senior player in the wake of Rohit Sharma’s retirement a few days before.
However, on May 12, Kohli announced his retirement from tests, and he retired with over 9000 runs in 123 Tests with 30 centuries with an average of above 48. It was an unfairytale ending for Virat Kohli, who ruled the roost in tests until 2020. Then Covid hit the world, and his test cricket record took a dive. He managed only three centuries in his last 25-odd tests, and his average dove from 54 to its final rating.
Meanwhile, ODIs remain the only format that Kohli has not retired from internationally. India’s next ODI series India plays will be against Australia in October, and then India will face South Africa at home in November.
Kohli, who has 14181 runs in 302 ODIs with 51 centuries and 74 fifties at an average of 57.88, will look forward to these matches, as he has admitted that he wants to play until the 2027 ICC World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
To stay fit for the same, Virat Kohli met with Gujarat Titans assistant coach Naeem Amin of England and had a hit in the indoor facilities in the UK.
