Virat Kohli scored his first fifty in ICC Cricket World Cup in a chase.

Virat Kohli was the star of India’s 6-wicket win along with KL Rahul against Australia on October 8, 2023, in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. This match was played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

It was a brilliant encounter that saw India coming back from a precarious position while chasing a paltry total.

India got off to the worst possible start in chasing a 200-run target, when Mitchell Starc dismissed Ishan Kishan for a golden duck, followed by Josh Hazlewood dismissing Rohit Sharma for a duck as well as Shreyas Iyer for a duck.

But after that, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul joined forces and put up a third-wicket stand of 165 runs in just 35 overs. They played out Adam Zampa and effectively negated the pacers. Before handing off to Hazlewood, Kohli smashed an incredible 85 with six fours.

At the other end, KL Rahul scored 97* with 8 fours and 2 sixes, leading India to a six-wicket victory in the 42nd over.

Virat Kohli facepalms hard as he realizes that he missed a golden chance for a century in World Cup

However, Virat Kohli got out at the worst possible time as there was an amazing century for him. He has not scored a century in the World Cup while chasing and this was his first fifty in the second innings.

He was definitely not happy when he reached the pavilion. In a viral video, Kohli can be seen facepalming himself repeatedly after he realized that he missed a golden opportunity to score his first century in a chase in a World Cup tournament.

Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja with 3/28, and Kuldeep Yadav with two wickets restricted Australia to 199. Steve Smith with 46 and David Warner with 41 were the top scorers for the five-time World Champions.
