Asia Cup 2023: Watch - Shaheen Afridi sends back Virat Kohli in IND vs PAK Group A clash

Virat Kohli managed to score only four runs before being dismissed by Shaheen Afridi.

Leader of the Indian batting unit, Virat Kohli was sent packing back to the pavilion early by Shaheen Afridi in the India v Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 clash on September 2, 2023, in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

The match saw Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain winning the toss and revealing that India are going in with two spinners in Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, and three pacers with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj being joined by Shardul Thakur as Mohammad Shami missed out.

Pakistan came into this encounter with the same playing Xi which played in the dominating win over Nepal in Multan.

India opened with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill and Pakistan gave the new ball to Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah and both of them tested Gill and Rohit’s defence and ability to leave the ball.

Shaheen Afridi lands the 1-2 punch, castles Virat Kohli

The rain break had messed with Rohit Sharma’s concentration and though he managed to hit Shaheen for two fours, the left-arm pacer had the last laugh as he castled the India captain with an excellent delivery which came in off the pitch.

Virat Kohli came in at no.3 and looked good, even hitting Naseem Shah for a glorious four with a lovely cover drive. He looked good and got behind every ball bowled by Pakistani pacers.

However, Shaheen Afridi struck again as he bowled a delivery across the Indian batter and Kohli in an attempt to drive it, played it with a slanted bat and only managed to hit it onto his stumps. This left India 27/2 in 7th over with Shaheen Afridi picking 2/15 in 5 overs with 2 maidens.
