Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag heaped praise on Rinku Singh's approach.

The ongoing Asian Games 2023 men’s cricket is a crucial point for Indian cricket. Team India have started their preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled in the West Indies and USA next year. With senior players playing fewer T20I games, Indian management is looking at fresh faces for the next big T20-International event in June next year. A second-string squad in the Asian Games 2023 will provide options to explore in the next 5-6 months.

The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side has been given a big opportunity to bring glory to India from the biggest Asian sporting exhibition in China. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rinku Singh have impressed everyone with their aggressive approach in the T20I format. Looking at their game, Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has highlighted the importance of these two in the current Indian T20I setup. Sehwag has also asked that the player’s similar approach will make India a dangerous side.

Virender Sehwag asks for more explosive options

After India’s win against Nepal in the quarter-final round of Asian Games Men T20I, Virender Sehwag tweeted, “I just feel we have too many batters who play in the same gear. Need to nurture more explosive players who can play in top gear, especially in T20 cricket. Many more in the Rinku and SKY mode needed to become a dangerous side.” Sehwag highlighted the importance of changing the style of play in the Indian T20 setup and asked to look for more explosive batters.

Virender Sehwag was himself known for explosive batting irrespective of the format. Sehwag as an opener has always looked to provide India with an aggressive start with the intent of aiming for a big score. Players like Rinku Singh, Suryakumar Yadav, and Yashasvi Jaiswal have become rising stars in Indian cricket after their explosive nature of batting. The ongoing Asian Games 2023 event will provide more options to look at for the future.

Rinku Singh played a magnificent cameo against Nepal and took the Indian team’s score above 200. Rinku smashed 4 sixes in his 15-ball stay at the crease. He went on to score 37 runs and added 52 runs along with all-rounder Shivam Dube (25). Surykumar Yadav is currently a Number one T20I batter and is recognized as one of the most explosive batters in the 20-over format. India will play in the semi-final on 6th October.
