Rohit Sharma has led India to two ICC titles.
India defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final to become the only team to win three Champions Trophy titles.
Captain Rohit Sharma led India from the front, smashing 76 off 83 balls to give the team a solid start in a tricky 252-run chase on a slow pitch.
While he had an average tournament as a batsman, he was simply outstanding as a captain. Rohit made a key selection decision to play four frontline spinners and trust Hardik Pandya to bowl with the new ball. He also rotated his bowlers well throughout the tournament, ensuring runs remained hard to come by in the middle overs.
Legendary Indian opener Virender Sehwag has now revealed Rohit’s key leadership traits that make him an excellent captain.
Virender Sehwag reveals what makes Rohit Sharma a complete leader
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag highlighted clear communication as one of Rohit Sharma’s strongest leadership traits.
Sehwag said, “We underrate his (Rohit’s) captaincy, but after these two trophies, he became the second (Indian) captain after Dhoni to win multiple ICC titles. The way the captain has used his bowlers, the way he has handled the team, the way he has guided the team, and whatever communication he does, he does it very clearly.“
“Whether it’s playing Harshit Rana first ahead of Arshdeep Singh or bringing in Varun Chakravarty in place of Harshit Rana, he has communicated well with his players, which was important.“
The 46-year-old noted that the Indian captain always puts his team first and ensures players have no insecurities.
He added, “He thinks less about himself, more about his team, his teammates. He makes them comfortable. He realises that if a player has insecurity, then his performance will not come.“
“That’s why he doesn’t let anyone feel insecure in that team. He takes everyone with him. This is the need for a better captain and leader. And Rohit Sharma is doing it very well.”
