VVS Laxman to step in as India's head coach for Asian Games - Reports

VVS Laxman is currently the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA)
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gears up up for an exciting turn of events at the upcoming Asian Games in China. Reports suggest that the legendary cricketer VVS Laxman, who currently heads the National Cricket Academy, is likely to take up the role of head coach for team India, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad. This strategic move comes as a result of the impending absence of regular head coach Rahul Dravid, who will be engrossed with the preparations of the Indian men’s cricket team for the highly anticipated ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Having cricket return to the Asian Games after being sidelined in the 2018 edition adds significance to this event. It marks the first-ever participation of India’s men’s cricket team in the tournament. As the excitement builds, Laxman’s appointment as head coach adds an extra layer of anticipation.
VVS Laxman set to coach Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Indian squad at Asian Games
Ruturaj Gaikwad, an emerging star in Indian cricket, will lead the squad. The young and talented batsman has already showcased his mettle on various platforms and will now guide the team’s fortunes under Laxman’s guidance.
Laxman’s vast cricketing acumen and leadership prowess make him the ideal candidate for this role. Presently, he is deeply involved in mentoring India’s emerging talents at the high-performance camp in Bengaluru. For the Asian Games, he will lead with the support of an adept coaching team, including former India leg-spinner Sairaj Bahutule as the bowling coach and Munish Bali as the fielding coach.
The women’s cricket team, too, are gearing up for its appearance at the Asian Games. Hrishikesh Kanitkar, a former India all-rounder, will take charge as the interim head coach of the women’s squad. Assisting him in this crucial role will be Rajib Dutta, the bowling coach, and Subhadeep Ghosh, who will focus on enhancing the team’s fielding prowess.
