David Warner backs Virat Kohli to play till the ICC Cricket World Cup 2031 in India
Virat Kohli is reportedly on a break from white-ball cricket after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Australian opener David Warner has said that given how fit Virat Kohli is, he can easily play until the ICC Cricket World Cup 2031 which is scheduled to be played in India and Bangladesh. This came in response to a fan on X (formerly Twitter), who hoped the 35-year-old would continue playing for India for a long time.
Virat Kohli is considered to be a GOAT of white-ball cricket with an exemplary record in ODIs and T20Is. In 292 ODIs, Kohli has 13848 runs at an average of 58.67 and a strike rate of 93.58. He has hit 72 fifties and a record 50 centuries, with his best being 183.
Coming to the T20Is, Kohli has 4008 runs in 115 matches. He averages 52.73 and has a strike rate of 137.96 with 37 fifties and one century and the best score of 122*.
He was the star of the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 which was held in India. Kohli amassed a record 765 runs in 11 matches, going past Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 673 runs in a single edition of the World Cup. Not only this, but Kohli also broke Tendulkar’s all-time ODI centuries record of 49, becoming the first batter to make 50 ODI tons.
Kohli hit 6 fifties and 3 centuries in the CWC 2023, showcasing that he is still a batter to be feared off.
“No reason why he can’t”- David Warner on virat Kohli playing CWC 2031
As of now, Virat Kohli has reportedly asked the BCCI for a break from white-ball cricket. He has seemingly opted out of the T20Is and ODIs on the upcoming tour of South Africa and will only be available for the two Tests.
Virat has publicly expressed his love for Test cricket, and he may retire from shorter forms to focus on red-ball games. He hasn’t played a T20I since India’s World Cup semi-final elimination in 2022.
However, the Australian opener believes Kohli will play in the global tournament.
“Hope virat too plays till 2031 wc,” one of his fans wrote. Warner was quick to respond. “No reason why he can’t, he is very fit and loves the game so much.”
