Washington Sundar played a key role for India with bat and ball against England.
The Indian Cricket Team, under Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill, came up with a stupendous performance in the five-match series against the England Cricket Team. The enthralling series between the teams ended in a 2-2 draw as both teams left no stone unturned in outplaying each other.
The young Indian team came up with brilliant performances in all the games, and their effort sent out a loud message that the future of the Indian Cricket Team is in safe hands. They started the series with a five-wicket loss at Headingley in Leeds.
But, after that, they made a strong comeback in the second game at Edgbaston in Birmingham. They won the match by a massive margin 336 runs and this was their first-ever win at the venue in the longest format of the game.
After a poor 22-run defeat at the Lord’s, India were put under a lot of pressure in the fourth game at Old Trafford in Manchester. But they made a strong comeback in the game and drew the game, when it seemed that they would suffer a big defeat.
In the last test at The Oval, India’s best performance was on the cards. They completed a magnificent six-run win, and it came on the last day when England needed 35 runs to win with four wickets in hand. However, Mohammed Siraj picked a fifer in the second innings and helped his team win.
We can dominate test Cricket for a very long time – Gautam Gambhir
After the win, Gautam Gambhir addressed players in the dressing room and said 2-2 is an outstanding result, and they will keep getting better from here. While speaking in a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), he said:
“Congratulations to all, the way this series has panned out 2-2 is an outstanding result – so remember we will keep getting better, we will keep working hard, we will keep improving our areas – because if we keep doing that, we can dominate Test Cricket for a very long time – people will come & go – but the culture of the dressing room should always be like that people want to be part of this culture, that is what we want to create,” said Gautam Gambhir.
After Gautam Gambhir’s speech, Ravindra Jadeja announced the Impact Player of the Series, and it went to none other than Washington Sundar. The all-rounder played a vital role with the bat and ball and contributed in almost every game.

Washington Sundar scored 284 runs in the four games at an average of 47.33. Not only this, he also slammed one century and one fifty. With the ball, he was decent as well, picking seven wickets to go with one four-wicket haul.
Speaking after winning the medal, he said:
