Yashasvi Jaiswal has smashed 9 centuries and 2 fifties in 15 first-class games.

India will begin their next World Test Championship cycle with a 2-match test series against West Indies next month. India suffered crushing defeats in the last two World Test Championship Finals in 2021 and 2023 respectively. India’s tour of the West Indies will begin on 12th July at Windsor Park in Dominica. Team India after their defeat against Australia are looking to bring in some changes in their setup.

Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer has batted for Yashasvi Jaiswal’s place in the test team for the West Indies tour and said that Jaiswal should be rewarded for his good performance in the Indian domestic circuit. Jaiswal has been batting brilliantly in the few seasons for Mumbai and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

Yashasvi Jaiswal's outstanding cricket puts him in the race

During an interaction when Wasim was asked about bringing young faces to the Indian test team, he said, “Yashasvi Jaiswal is definitely one of them. He has been a very prolific scorer across formats, whether you talk about the IPL, domestic cricket, or India A cricket. I think he needs to be a part of the squad”. Talking about Jaiswal he further added, “He was given an opportunity as well this time. He was a part of the team but Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma were playing, so obviously he didn’t get a chance. I feel he should be kept along with the team so that he can be groomed, and as and when an opportunity comes, should get a chance”. Jaiswal was part of the reserves in the WTC Final squad.

The 21-year-old left-hander had tremendous stats in the red-ball format and was brilliant for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. Yashasvi Jaiswal has played 15 first-class games and batted with an outstanding average of 80.21 and scored 1845 runs with 9 centuries and 2 half-centuries.

Jaiswal’s conversion rate looks better than many and in his 11 fifty-plus scores, Jaiswal smashed 9 centuries. With Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma in the playing eleven, Jaiswal’s place in the XI looks uncertain but he can be groomed as an opener if team management keeps him around for a while and later provide an opportunity to play games.
