Virat Kohli equaled Sir Don Bradman's record of 29 Test centuries with his 121 in Trinidad Test.

Virat Kohli finally broke the voodoo of not scoring an overseas century in Tests since December 2018, as he struck a gritty ton in the ongoing second Test between West Indies and India played at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad on July 21, 2023.

Resuming on day 2 from 288/4, the Indian team had a well-set Virat Kohli on 87* and Ravindra Jadeja on 36*. Soon after the team hit 300, Virat Kohli finally made his long-awaited century, which was a great occasion.

Shannon Gabriel's wide full delivery was smashed through the covers for four runs, giving him his 76th international century and 29th Test century. Since December 2018, this was his first test century away from home, and you could see the relief on his face.

Kohli became the first player to score a century in his 500th international game, and a run-out ended his innings. More significant than the fact that he scored 121 runs in 206 balls with 11 fours was the fact that the monkey was off his back.

This was a huge achievement for Kohli who had endured a horrific time period from November 2019 to September 2022, when he went three years without scoring a century in international cricket, while seeing his peers in fan four- Steve Smith, Joe Root, and Kane Williamson, race ahead of him in terms of runs and centuries.

However, somehow the drought ended in Asia Cup T20 in 2022 against Afghanistan and then the dam broke in ODIs as well, with centuries against Bangladesh and New Zealand. Finally, the three-year wait in Test cricket also ended as he stroked 186 against Australia in Ahmedabad.

Virat Kohli’s record 76th-ton ends in a heartbreaking run out

The way Virat Kohli was batting, it looked like the West Indies bowlers were not going to get him out and he wasn’t giving them any chances anyway.

The veteran batsman looked comfortable throughout his extensive stay at the crease, and it took some exceptional fielding brilliance from Alzarri Joseph to curtail his batting juggernaut.

It happened in the 99th over of the Indian innings, when Kohli turned Jomel Warrican towards the leg side and set off for a single. Jadeja responded to the call, but Kohli for some reason hesitated for a fraction of a second and this proved to be his undoing.

Alzarri Joseph hurled a brilliant direct hit onto the stumps from the square leg region and Kohli was found short of his ground and walked back angrily to the pavilion for a well-made 121.
