Watch: Glenn Maxwell's "Shot of the century" to finish off match against Afghanistan

Glenn Maxwell became first ever Australian to smash an ODI Double hundred.
It was a night to remember for Glenn Maxwell and Australia. Every cricket fan witnessed something incredible at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was a freak show from one of the most destructive batters in the history of the game. Maxwell took Australia from 91/7 and smashed an unbeaten double century to register the highest individual score in a successful run chase in World Cup history. He played an unbelievable innings in match no. 39 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Notably, Glenn Maxwell missed the last game against England due to concussion, and he was struggling with cramps and hamstring pain during his knock today. But he stuck to the crease and made sure that Australia finished with a semi-final spot. Glenn Maxwell scored 201 not out from 128 balls, with 21 fours and 10 sixes, to win it for India.

It was visible that Maxwell was struggling with pain and wasn’t even taking easy singles. But he made incredible use of his hands and eyes and played some incredible shots all around the ground. He hit sixes off the spinners without moving his feet and played some reverse scoop for sixes. But Maxwell played probably his best shot to finish off the game off Mujeeb-ur-Rahman.
Waych the video here:
He finished the game with three sixes and one four on four consecutive deliveries from Mujeeb, and he brought up his double hundred. He is now the only Australian to score a double century in 50-over cricket. Notably, it is also the highest individual score in a successful run chase. With this, he also struck his second hundred in this tournament.
Maxwell took 128 balls to reach his double ton, which is now the second fastest after Ishan Kishan’s 126-ball double hundred against Bangladesh last year in December. Maxwell added an unbeaten partnership of 203 runs for the 8th wicket with Pat Cummins, which is now the highest 8th wicket stand in ODIs. Interestingly, Cummins only scored 12 runs off 68 balls, which was also incredible from him. All in all, it was a once-in-a-lifetime knock, and fans were lucky to witness such a high-quality inning tonight.
