Punjab Kings defeated MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings by 4 wickets in a thriller of a game.

MS Dhoni was in full form behind the stumps when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clashed with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a thrilling IPL 2023 game at the Chepauk on April 30, 2023.

CSK batted first after MS Dhoni won the toss and posted 200/4. Ruturaj Gaikwad (37) and Devon Conway added 86 runs for the first wicket in 9.4 overs. Moeen Ali scored 10 runs, and Shivam Dube performed a fast knock of 28 in 17 balls. It was Devon Conway who batted throughout the innings and scored his highest IPL score of 92* in 52 balls with 16 fours and 1 six.

MS Dhoni gave the Chepauk crowd what it wanted as he smacked Sam Curran for two sixes in two consecutive deliveries in the final over of the CSK innings.

In response, Punjab Kings took the game by the collar. Shikhar Dhawan was the first casualty as he fell for 28 in 15 balls and then Prabhsimran Singh got out after making 42 in 24 balls with 4 sixes and 2 fours to his name.

Atharva Taide fell for 13 runs and Liam Livingstone, who was looking dangerous, fell for 40 in 24 balls after hitting 1 four and 4 sixes and got out going for his fifth maximum.

However, it was Sam Curran (20) and Jitesh Sharma (21) kept Punjab in the game as it all came down to the last over with 9 needed. Sikandar Raza kept his cool when 7 were needed from last 4 balls and 3 were needed off the last ball.

He hit the slow ball from Matheesha Pathirana over square leg and scampered for three runs, giving PBKS the win by 4 wickets in the end.

MS Dhoni stumps Prabhsimran Singh in a cheeky way

Earlier, Prabhsimran Singh had given PBKS the start they wanted by making 42 runs in 24 balls, hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes in his knock. But his innings came to an end when he was stumped by MS Dhoni off the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja in the 9th over.

Singh had stepped way out of his crease to hoick Jadeja for a six, but missed the ball as the spinner saw him coming and shortened the length. MS Dhoni collected the ball and waited for some seconds before removing the bails in a cheeky manner.
